Brad and Shelley have been married since 1992, and have three daughters. All three of the girls, Alyssa, Hannah, and Megan are really into ballet. Shelley was born and raised in southern Mexico; the daughter of missionaries there, and still loves Latino culture! Brad spent 9 years doing ministry in Mexico before going to college at the University of Arizona, where he got involved with InterVarsity and where he met Shelley (fluency in Spanish helped win her over, he says!) For 11 years the Bertelsens worked with IVCF at the University of Texas at El Paso and at New Mexico Tech. Brad currently serves as Area Director of Southern Idaho and Utah. Shelley loves being a mom, and is into home-schooling, knitting, and hiking. Brad loves doing stuff with Shelley and the girls,is into fly-fishing and playing with his dog Bandit. Brad gets pretty excited at the thought of planting new chapters where there is nothing.  Both would say that the best thing in life is walking with Jesus and helping others do the same!

Theresa Mereszczak

Yuri and Theresa just got married and are excited to serve the students at Boise State together, Theresa on staff and Yuri as a volunteer. Theresa has been on staff with InterVarsity since 1999 serving from Arizona to the Middle East, from Utah to Idaho. Yuri has worked as an engineer in Boise since 2005. Be sure to ask him about the virtues of a roundabout… Together Yuri and Theresa love exploring the wonders of God’s creation, serving the community around them, and caring for whoever crosses their path. And they like cooking for people (especially since they have all their new wedding presents to host with) – so feel free to invite yourself over. Most importantly, then you’ll be able to meet their stupidly fabulous dog Tucker, the keeper of all hearts, at the Mereszczak household.

Which was her first encounter with intervarsity and it was through that group that she started her journey of following Jesus. After college, she interned for the international justice mission before landing on staff at Faith Chapel Church in Billings, MT where: she went to bible college, got her pastoral license and worked with students, community, missions and creative arts. In August she moved to Ogden, Utah to join the staff team at Weber State University. It has been amazing time for her, teaching, discipling and loving students. She thinks it is the best job ever. Outside of InterVarsity - she loves being active, reading, and her favorite Popsicle is purple. It’s a crazy adventure following Jesus, but give her a Bible, her Chacos and refillable mug of coffee and she is all set!
